Sugar is a major contributor to the silent epidemic.

Candida is a fungus that is normally harmless. It resides in the digestive tract and in small amounts is part of our intestinal ecology. Fungi in the correct balance are helpful in digestion and the breakdown of vitamins and enzymes. When Candida overgrows is when problems can happen. Overgrowth of Candida becomes parasitic which can cause chronic inflammation contributing to degenerative disease and multiple health problems.

It is estimated that 80% of all Americans suffer with chronic Candida with women being eight times more likely to have Candida overgrowth. What causes Candida overgrowth? When our immune system is not working like it should then Candida can grow out of control. This can happen from exposure to heavy metals, internal toxins from poor digestion, and stress. If you have a Candida problem the Candida can be consuming your nutrients leaving toxins in their place.

Probiotics are critical for good intestinal health and to control Candida. A second cause of overgrowth of Candida is a reduction in the good bacteria in the digestive tract. What can cause this? When you consume refined carbohydrates, alcohol and caffeine your good bacteria take serious hits. Sugar is a big problem for the good bacteria in our intestines so you really want to limit your intake. Antibiotics kill the good bacteria along with the bad so if you take antibiotics you want to make sure to increase your level of probiotics. Mercury fillings produce an antibiotic effect.

The third main reason for Candida overgrowth is an upset in the pH of the intestines. When the pH is out of balance, either too alkaline or too acid, Candida can grow out of control. Acid blocking medications can contribute to the overgrowth as well as a lack of digestive enzymes. Processed foods as well as meat and dairy are highly acidic.

Some of the symptoms of Candida include: anxiety, depression, emotional problems, irrational fears, panic, quick anger, irritability, sleep disturbance, hyperactivity, low self-esteem, asthma, coughs, sinus problems, sore throat, thrush, bad breath, constipation, bloating, diarrhea, gas, gastritis, heartburn, indigestion, intestinal pain, nausea, food cravings, food sensitivities, hypoglycemia, colic, acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin infections, hives, rash, athlete's foot, fingernail and toenail fungus, dandruff, confusion, trouble concentrating, brain fog, memory loss or poor memory, headaches or migraines, PMS, cramps, sexual problems, vaginal yeast infections, cystitis, puffiness, infertility, allergies, chemical sensitivities, chronic fatigue, sore muscles, stiffness, swollen joints, gout, and weight gain. Just look at all of those symptoms! Now if you go to the typical doctor what will he do? He will prescribe some kind of drug when all you need to do is to address the problem of Candida overgrowth!

Chronic inflammation is the main cause in so many health problems. Candida releases toxins into the bloodstream which causes chronic inflammation. These toxins affect the central nervous system as well as interfere with hormone metabolism. What are some inflammatory diseases? How about cancer, cardiovascular, Alzheimer's, pulmonary, Arthritis, autoimmune disease, neurological, and Diabetes. Can you see how simply controlling Candida could help so many people?

So what can each of us do. Each person is responsible for their own health. No doctor, test or insurance company will give you good health. The first thing to do is to control your diet. Eat mainly organic food and a majority in the raw state. Really limit your intake of processed foods.
